It was lunchtime in one of Haiti’s worst slums, and Charlene Dumas was eating mud. With food prices rising, Haiti’s poorest can’t afford even a daily plate of rice, and some take desperate measures to fill their bellies. Charlene, 16 with a 1-month-old son, has come to rely on a traditional Haitian remedy for hunger pangs: cookies made of dried yellow dirt from the country’s central plateau mixed with salt and vegetable shortening.
I just cann’t believe it!
How can we help hese people? Do you know how?
This is so unexceptable for any human beings to not have adequate access too at least rice, beans, lentils…etc in order to survive. How can I contact the right Organization to make sure that these people can get some kind of nutrition other than mud pies for consumption. Please email me a contact, it would be much appreciated. DH
Perhaps one long term and sustainable solution might be to help finance a permaculture program to rebuild the soil and provide more food.
The Permaculture Institute does have some programs underway in Haiti, and you can contact them more info.
See:

There are some other aid groups and NGO’s in Haiti, and some local groups as well.
Cheers,

Hi everyone,
We all know that our body has the capacity to diggest minerals and that those are essential.
But of course that this is a situation that is unacceptable.
The concentration of wealth and especially the indiference toward others, not worrying about helping the poor countries to achieve a sustained development, is leading to situations like the mentioned one and even worst ones.
It seems that since the Live Aid in the 80’s nothing or little has been done.
Civilization development is not about technology, civilization development is about life quality. Having a place to sleep, a home to live and food to eat.
Kind regards,
José
